Poor for God?

I watched Joel Osteen for a few years. Went to Methodist church for a couple years. While there, I shared my plight with a young girl, in her 30's. She remarked to me " you don't Know what God is trying to show you". Oh no I said. I'm Not gonna be poor no way. " Fast forward...here I am.
