Really Russell?

Russell Simmons has a billion dollar company with hundreds of employees. So i was a lil surprised when on show #2 of his reality series, Running Russell, he resorted to a flash! Apparently there was a Basic instinct moment involving one of the interns. Really Russell? Then on show #3 or 4 there is a reference to Domestic violence, involving model Amber Rose. Like i tweeted on Twitter, there is no excuse for violence. xx

I have been Tweeting for the past year. I tweeted about my life and my work. Some of the highlights include......Doc Brown Tweeting a line from Back to the Future. Following Paula Abdul and Soleil Moon Frye. Getting blessings from Kimora Lee Simmons and then her tweet to me about not giving up! Tweeting with Tori and Dean and spending time with The Guncles and baby Simone. Been to dozens of sites and blogs and met some new tweeps! Yesterday when Snoop Dog exhaled, i inhaled. Two of my kids were teens when their dad died. I wanted to say Love you, be careful when they left the house, over and over. Being teens, it would embaress them, in front of their friends. Especially when i yelled it as they walked down the street.......So i came up with this system of initials....LY BC. Or perhaps LU BC would be correct these days. I read so many blogs about breastfeeding. I did feed my kids that way. It's better for baby, easier for mom and much less money. I do know of a breastfeeding story I'd like to share. I had a friend with a sick baby. I was in support of mother's milk as was the Dr. nurses, and all that looked in. My friend was on the fence about it, mostly because her M-I-L did not approve. Seems the generation before me was oppose to it for some reason and those grandmas linger on. Even tho my generation was pro breast milk, some ppl do not evolve. They do not want to see change, even for better. So my friend gave up and put kid on formula. Fast fwd several years and a new baby was born in that family. The baby's mom, a nurse, pumped for a year! The grandma didn't say a word. So one baby got breast milk and one did not. The point here is do what's good for you and your baby! To thine own self be true! xx

My daughter recently told me that her sister referred to our home as a hell hole. I was very offended, as that was my family and home. But yet i have to be honest and say yes we were beat. Maybe i should have protected my children and got out sooner but i wanted them to have a father. I was a battered wife . The kids got spankings. That was decades ago. Times have changed and so has parenting. I remember when our oldest became a tween my husband said she is too big to spank any more. I learned to live with him by doing what he said. When he said sit down and shut up i did. It was survival. I gave my kids a great life filled with love and special birthdays. But i have to say im sorry now for the violence! xx

Eminem released his new video and it is stirring up controversy. Are they glorifying Domestic Violence? Or just the video? Scandal sells. Period. I have survived two abusive relationships One was the father of my children, the second a live in boy friend. My husband was addicted to drugs and sex, unfortunately. My boy friend is an alcoholic. I left him 7 yrs ago and lost everything. That relationship was hard to leave because he was the salt of the earth all day and then when he drank OMG. There are no easy answers and i have no advice. Except to have a nest egg, exit plan, support of family and friends. I had none of those but work hard every day to make it all alone!xx

Two sisters from Boston...was on early this morning. Jimmy Durante came on and i remember doing his dentures, when i was a Dental Assistant. I also made his wife's crowns. She wasnt happy with the job and tore up the Dentist's check. She wanted her teeth separate, not together. Later that day i was fired! 1976 xx

but it will never be the same. I left my Lottery ticket in your car this morning. Normally it would be ok for me to leave it there, but not any more. I went out to get it. Looking out for number one now. That's ME! xx

Amber's not pregnant, Dreama said to me, quite casually. I found it surprising as Dreama is barely nine years old and we don't know Amber! Amber is on MTV's Teen Mom. Funny how these reality celebs have worked their way into our homes, hearts and main stream conversation. We are even on a first name basis with them. They become friends of our families, and we discuss them and their issues with life and love. So in the end i am glad Amber isnt pregnant, again. Im glad Dee refreshed his Tatt for his 34th anniversary. Im glad Chrissy decided to stay at her parents dress shop. Not sure Gene and shannon needed face lifts, and welcome home josie! xx

Here are my best tips! Hope you enjoy! ! 1- All brides should have a hanky. wiping nose on fingers is not ok. Even Tori Spelling was guilty of that. Gasp! 2- I think Umbrellas are cute for bridemaids and flower girls. Leaning them fwd creates a look, can be twirled in wedding colors. Cute! 3-long before Rock the Reception, i thought of choreographed ceremonies. Brides and grooms singing to each other. Wow! 4- it's a circus! As bride walks down the aisle, circus performers spin, flip, leap down the aisle, too! Why? cuz marriage can be a circus and you have to focus on each other, only! Great! 5-vintage idea...have your bokay made with corsage inside. Before you throw your bokay remove corsage for honeymoon! Sweet! xx

The pony Tail! xx

Ever since i was lil i loved Pony tails! I loved Barbie's pony tail, Judy Jetson's pony tail and my mom's. Looking up one day i saw her make her own blonde pony tail. I was about 3 or 4. I always loved high pony tails and wanted mine higher and higher! When i had my own lil girl i wanted her to have high pony tails, too. I would go to work and beg my husband to make her a high one.. Most days i was disappointed as her tail hung low. I even made a tote to mark the occasion! I have followed the pony tail thru the years. The other day i made a messy one like the celebs do. My younger daughter asked me... you brushed your hair??? Yes, i said it's the new messy tail the celebs wear. Of course it helps if you are young, thin, and beautiful! xx

To Tan or not to Tan?

Isn't really a question any more. I grew up with a sun worshipping mother. She was nearly perfect in every way. There we baked and there we lay. I have heard it is addicting and we do have that personality. Was she happier in the summer? I really don't remember any difference. I do know we went out of our way to seek the sun out many times per year. It wasn't the complete focus of our lives but the house of sun is where we did worship. Which was fine for Mom who became bronze in only one day, but for me, it meant burns and blisters. Ouch! Now we also know it can mean skin cancer. So as parents this is the deal. You do your best and hope for the best and only time will really tell. xx

Money is a funny thing. Either you have it or you don't. The minute you get some and try to get ahead...something brakes or the brakes go out. Then you have less money. When i was growing up my dad tried to save every penny. My mom tried to spend every penny. There was a constant fight. People will tell you they have the money thing figured out, but they don't. I know people who spend extra money driving around to save a few pennies on Jello. I know someone who goes to hotels and orders room service. They think they got it going on. One thing is for sure never give or loan anyone money. You can of course, just make sure you tell that person good bye! It will be the end of your relationship. You gave them something they didn't earn, and you will throw the Universe out of whack. They will never remember you helped them, you will always remember you helped them. Money is a funny thing, either you have it or don't. xx

People i can't forget....

We were visiting a nursing home. A young man in his fifties was pushing his wife in a wheelchair. It was their anniversary. He explained to us that they lost a child years ago and his wife lost her mind! Their child fell down the stairs and died. She never recovered from their loss. So he moved in with her at the nursing home. He could have left her and lived anywhere. but he choose to stay with her and honor their wedding vows. He spent his days pushing her around in her chair, while she babbled to herself. Since it was their Anniversary, their grown, survivng children visited them. I couldn't help but think how sad it was for him, to give up everything, but he couldn't leave his wife. I wish more men felt that way! xx

Never say Never!

I usually don't support marriages and careers where people were left and hurt. I dont do Brangie, J-lo and Marc or Julia Roberts. I do watch Tori and Dean's reality show, (Oxygen) however and I have come to love and support them. WHY? Because they proved to me they are really in love, because Dean is so supportive of Tori. Because the kids are so cute! Because you can never say never. xx

We try and celebrate everything. I started doing a lil Sabbath for Dreama. Starting with breakfast, a lil treat, Nutella, fun cereal. In case Friday night is hectic I got it started! Chocolate,flowers and lights....I look forward to it each week. Then on Sat. I rest. Sunday starts it all again!xx

I was excited to go to SweetHart's Treats and yogurt in S.O. Owned by star Melissa Joan Hart. I'd driven past and seen her on Jen's List. So the three of us went in and it was cute! There was a little mess, quickly cleaned up and one broken plastic container, that remained. The tables were darling with sweets inside the glass. Everyone ooooooooo'd and awwwwwww'd as they came in. The yogurt was yummy and we also indulged in red velvet cake which was pretty good. I told the young man behind the counter I had seen them on Jen's list. I was disappointed he didnt know what I meant. However the girl next to him flashed a smile. So we had an understanding. All in all, I highly recommend stopping by SweetHart's on Ventura Blvd., off of Woodman. Candy,yogurt,coffee and treats! A little mess, a little whimsy... after all we are dealing with kids! xx JMO as a grandma!

My daughter received a Christmas card from her Grandmother. 8o yrs old. I know most people would simply send a card back to her without much thought. Of course i had many. I thought about how I was married to her son. I wanted to tell her I was a good wife. I wish I could have told her I missed being closer to her. I thought of a pic I saw of her when she was little. Her long curly hair flowing as she was holding a cat. I had many thoughts of life and regret...but most of all I thought...Please God don't let me be 80! xx

Cooking tips!

1- When using stove top, set timer, just in case! 2-freeze small amounts of left overs and add to soups and stews. Tiny bits of veggies, mashed pots or mac and cheese. work well! 3- When un wrapping butter sticks, save wrappers in container for easy greasing of pans. Keep in freezer. 4-sometimes i cook all day or not at all! "Stouffer's week" i call it. Buy 3 Stouffer family dinners, clean all week instead! 5-plan menus and write a list! 6- I do themes like pasta....several pasta dinners. OR puddin week. I'll make a Chocolate cloud w/ Cool Whip. Rice pudding for my x to remember his grandma. And i'll hide a treat in one, as English folk do! (an almond) Who will be the winner? Dreama! Easy shopping down one aisle, a lil fun theme, too!

For JEN - Jen's List with love! - I was recently asked my opinion and here it is! When raising kids, don't do more that you have to. Once you start something it is hard to stop it. The mother in question has 3 boys ...5 actually, but that's another blog. :) Three, school aged boys who want to follow the latest trend. I say.. wait till summer. Mohawks can take on a life of their own with colors and length. I was at a dance recital when a mom walked in with her 3ft- tall, tri- colored, mohawked son. The hair was 3 feet high, not the kid. Everyone tried not to stare, but it was freakish. If you decide to do it, set limits before hand. How many colors, how many inches or feet long and how many hours per day can be spent on it. You are already in x3! This could be time consuming, especially during morning rush hour. Hair products multiplied, also get expensive, although you might be able to find a giant tube of blue gel at Costo, for families with multiples! Either way, your boys are beautiful! JMO... as a grandma.........xx

I was sitting in a Dental chair when Martha Stewart came on. She was discussing acquiring her next zillions with family value. Kate on DWTS

One night my son walked in while i was watching Jon and Kate. I bet she had those babies to be on TV he said. Yes Max i said, sarcasticly that's why she had them. Flash forward ...i see Kate's smiling face on magazine covers and i wonder. Why was she hired for DWTS she never danced a day in her life! It was good for ratings i heard. So at the end of the day i wonder...what came first the babies or the fame? She was going to make it no matter what. She threw her parents away and didnt look back. Matching cribs and matching clothes she clawed her way to the top. Leaving many scarred in her distance. xx

Four pots!

Had a dinner idea.. good for the whole week, or most of it! I use to say if i have beans, rice, eggs and veggies in the house we can eat! Here is my idea! Four pots! Make four pots of food to mix and match. Cook in one day and be done! Family can serve themselves during busy weeks or non cooking weeks. Good for lunch too. Examples- pot of BEANS,RICE,VEGGIES,SOUP. Other ideas include a large meat loaf, corn bread or a pot of hard boiled eggs. Pasta, pilaf, salad. Bowls of mixed canned beans sprinkled with olive oil and lemon. Food that can last and will last four days in the frige. When i got married 35 yrs ago my husband said ...anything opened, is only good for 4 days. So four days, four pots, four days of food. One day of cooking! Great for Meatless Monday too! Freeze the rest! xx

In all reality!

I have nothing against the Duggar's. I am praying for Josie to be strong and healthy. I am also concerned Michelle is going to try this again! What if she gets high blood pressure again? Shouldn't she be happy with what she has... 19 children, and just move on? I guess it's me and how i was raised! My dad didn't let me be selfish at all! I would be in a different place right now had i been allowed to be selfish. My father would ask...do you need it? The answer was NO! Do you really need another baby?.......in the end....it's up to you and God! xx

My dd is in a new relationship. It was slow to come in many ways but hopefully that is a good sign. She told me there are things she just won't take...like being hit. I am very proud of her, as a daughter, mother, person. i wish them all the luck and all the love! xx

Domestic Violence

It's been one year since Chris and Rihanna. It's been six years for me. That's when i got out of my domestic abusive relationship, due to alcohol. I got 3 generations out and lost it all. I could have/should have waited till i had a secure income. The problem with that is in the type of relationship you are in. Once the fight is over you move on to the honeymoon phase. You then get lulled into thinking...it's going to be ok, till the next fight happens. I got out quickly and without much thought. I worked and prayed everyday since that night and hope it will be ok in the end. There probably isnt a good time to ever get out. Getting out with your life is what is most important. This wasnt my first bad relationship but it will be the last! xx
